Even though I’m surrounded by patterns every day, I never gave a second thought to the fact that real people actually design these beautiful patterns, and that anything with a surface can have a pattern, made by a designer…then it hit me that I could be one of those designers.
After I read the book I immediately wanted to learn more, so I started collecting inspiration and images by pattern designers that I admire on my surface pattern design pinterest board, and once I learned how to create a repeating pattern in illustrator, I was hooked!
I ordered the Print & Pattern books and started learning everything I could, short of going to an art university. One great free resource I found was this free Introduction to Surface Design course on skillshare. If you haven’t signed up for this course yet, I highly encourage you to do so as a jumping off point.
